Home Energy Management Systems Adoption Scenarios: The Case of Italy

The 2030 zero-net emission target in the E.U. demands a significant improvement energy performance of building stock. This study analyses adoption connected thermostats and Home energy-management system solutions (HEMS) as an effective means to tackle residential footprint. It reviews main features HEMS systems terms technology, cross-study performances, obstacles widespread adoption; adopts case-study methodology examine impact on Italian real estate stock at regional level. A matrix scenarios assesses potential benefits global savings, weighted by local climatic variations, dimension, number single dwellings, average primary reduction per household. Results demonstrate that all dramatically reduce consumption, outperforming targets for Italy 2030.
